I am a Southie, and as you know here in the South, there are A LOT of food options to try out. You just have to know where to look. Last Thursday I was hugely craving for donuts, not the chocolate/strawberry-filled ones, but our old-school home-style donuts that we used to find at our local bakeries.  I'm from Laguna. The nearest branch from where I live is in BF Homes Parañaque, and just got lucky, that my fiancé happens to live in Las Piñas so he did the ordering and my craving was satisfied. We ordered triple cheese donuts and pichi-pichi. We originally wanted toasted siopao but was not available via Grab that day. Don't know why. Look at those yummies. The donuts are unpretentious; packaging is simple but nice. It was delicious of course! Did I even have to emphasize that? Haha. I got the triple cheese because hey, cheese is life. First heard of Gringo a few years ago when my former colleagues-turned friends in an office in Makati celebrated our annual December get-together. Back then I had no idea what kind of restaurant it was but to cut the story short, since then I have already liked and enjoyed the foods that they offer. Known for Latin American dishes such as burritos, quesadillas and nachos, this place is known too, for roasted chicken, beer and more. Since working again in Makati last January, walking along Dela Rosa St. has been a constant route to Park Square, where I have to take UV Express going home. The memory of deliciously-roasted chicken and nachos comes back everytime I pass by the area, to which the restaurant is closely visible. Last Wednesday, I had the inkling that it would be traffic going home because of the holiday rushers going home to their provinces in the South. I must be really jetlagged from my month-long stay in Singapore last year, that up to now, I still have the feels of being there. Not only do I miss the place, but the food, as well. After a (more than) 2-hour meeting, I and my supervisor headed straight to Megamall to find a decent place to eat. We walked around fast, and soon after found a decent place to eat. It's called My Singapore Food Street. There's quite a variety of foods to choose from - dimsum, noodles/soups, rice meals, desserts, and others that are commonly found in Singapore. Hi everyone! I've been "busy" the past months, and though I've been meaning to write, it's like something's taking hold of my drive to write again. Okay, truth is, I'm caught in between busy and lazy that's why I was unable to update this blog. Anyhooo, I'm back to share about the most recent happenings. Yesterday was the birthday celebration of one of my High School friends' daughter. Off we went to Las Villas de Manila Clubhouse in Southwoods to take part in the Doc McStuffins-themed event hosted by Ms. Amor Fernandez. In all fairness, she was good. Not only did she do the hosting and balloon twisting, she's a ventriloquist and a magician, too. She was able to catch everyone's attention by her spontaneity. Desserts table was a hit. Since my trip to Sg last year, I've been somehow exposed to Indian food and so a friend and I planned to dine in at the Indian restaurant across the office. It's been months but the plan never pushed through. After work one evening, I and my two other officemates decided to cap off the day by binge-ing before heading home. I've been wanting to have something Indian, but the suggestion to try out the restaurant across the office building was rejected. Great thing, there's New Bombay Anyhoo, we ordered Tandoori Chicken, Mushroom Biryani and Chicken Tikka Masala. Tandoori Chicken is described as chicken marinated in yogurt with a blend of mild Indian spices, that give it a distinct aroma and wonderful taste. It was savory, but dry. It was last year when I first heard that one Filipino would have the chance to go to space and represent via Axe Apollo. When the winner was announced, I read his name on an online newspaper and read about him just out of curiosity. This led me to Chino Roque's Instagram account. At that point, I was clueless but too lazy to search if the account name means anything. Recently, I saw a post of some celebrity dining in at El Chupacabra. That gave it away. El Chupacabra is a place. Little did I know that more than it being just a name of a restaurant, it is a mythical creature . Merely by saying "Aveneto" in my head makes me smile and want to go back. Last week was a draining week. Work and training happened side by side on most days and I couldn't help but feel really tired. On the last day of training last Saturday, me and my good (food) buddy, Trina, had to let out the stress and make time for a perfect food adventure. It was planned. Haven't been out in the last couple of weeks due to my busy schedule, but last week, I was able to lunch in at their Greenbelt 1 branch. Razon's has always been known for their Halo-halo, and for the longest time I had no clue that they have viands in the menu, as well. It was lunch time and service was surprisingly quick. Normally, I would eat only my mother's version of Dinuguan, aside from Goldilocks', but I thought it would be fun trying something out for the first time. Made a good choice. Their version is yummy, only though, if you like it sour. Very sour, that is. Sauce was watery and not thick in consistency. Still delicious in my opinion. Oh hi there, everyone! Happy new year (yes, I'm so late, I know. Been really busy with my new job and it's so hard to catch up on writing when you're adjusting.)! I've actually not been out a lot lately and this one time I met up with a friend, I thought I must share with you. We dined in at Pancake House in Glorietta 1.Was super duper tired few days prior and my way of making up to my poor self is (always) to binge eat. Tried out Spicy Chicken Fillet with Brown Rice Pilaf. At first I couldn't distinguish if the tangy taste was because of the tartar sauce or if the brown rice was spoiled. Last Thursday, I met up with Ciarra, my grade school classmate and the brain (and hands) behind Sweets by Happy Mommy. It was a coincidence we're formerly classmates and that my other friend, who ordered our barkada's Christmas treats, are friends, too. What a small world! I and our other  friends are too pre-occupied with our own stuff, little did we know our "sisters" in KSA were already having something in the works. We're getting sweets! What each of us received was a box of a dozen blueberry cheesecake bites, baked by no one else but Ciarra. Soon as I got home, I took a bite of my share. Sweet, smooth, and heavenly are words to describe it. Don't you just love spontaneous moments? When you don't plan something out and suddenly pushes through, more than those you've prepared for? That's exactly the scene last night when my friend, out of the blue, sent me a message asking if I wanted to go food tripping. Imagine neighbors not seeing each other for weeks, and sometimes months, so of course I said yes. Still stuffed from the last meal I had, she asked what I was craving for and all I can think of was puto bumbong and bibingka. She, on the otherhand, wanted shawarma. The only place I know where there's shawarma is at the Rosario Complex strip, which is just a few meters away from our houses.   Being pissed off at work or anywhere, for that matter, doesn't do me any good these days because I end up splurging on nothing else but food. Last Thursday, I went out with one of my co-nurses at Festival Mall to shoo-away the bad vibes I had at work earlier that day. Prior to that, it's been one of our long-time plans to try out Japanese or Thai cuisine, but that time he didn't want anymore. We kept walking around and our lazy feet brought us to Sicylisimo. The green and yellow chairs and tables had me. Very cool ambience. We were both first-timers at this new place, so we looked on the menu and picked out what looked delish. I, being a cheese lover, instantly said yes to the call of Blue Buffalo Pizza and my partner-in-crime ordered Spaghetti Alla Bolognese. We asked for Brewed Iced Tea Pitcher, too. Last Monday, after lunch-ing out with my parents, I saw this kiosk of cupcakes that looked really inviting. I asked the lady what the best-seller is, and she immediately answered, "Red Velvet". Woooow. Exactly what I thought.   I remember reading about the Top 10 Red Velvet Cupcakes months ago and Sophie's Mom landed on the 8th spot! Look at their packaging. A simple box that houses one cupcake in pink and blue colors. How lovely! But nothing's lovelier than what's inside. This moist, dark red cupcake with thick cream cheese frosting just does the trick. The sourness of the cream cheese and the sweetness brought in by the cupcake itself can make anyone's day for real. Sold at Php 60 per piece, which is not bad at all. :) I seriously enjoyed every bite and will definitely try other flavors next time. My parents celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary last Monday, and our way to celebrate was through food at Sambo Kojin, located at the Food Center of SM Southmall in Las Pinas. I'm a huge fan of rolls/makis/sushis, sashimis and the like, so I started off with those. Lots of those. I also got a plateful of meat and seafood for grilling. Munching on my rolls while grilling. Before I head on to my next plate I was already feeling my stomach's expansion (I am not kidding!). Forgive me but I was not able to check out what the steamed thing I placed on my plate along with my miso soup was. It was white, soya-ish with crab stick slice and other meat.
