Tokyo Tokyo's California & Spicy Beef Makis

Don't you just love spontaneous moments? When you don't plan something out and suddenly pushes through, more than those you've prepared for? That's exactly the scene last night when my friend, out of the blue, sent me a message asking if I wanted to go food tripping. Imagine neighbors not seeing each other for weeks, and sometimes months, so of course I said yes. Still stuffed from the last meal I had, she asked what I was craving for and all I can think of was puto bumbong and bibingka. She, on the otherhand, wanted shawarma. The only place I know where there's shawarma is at the Rosario Complex strip, which is just a few meters away from our houses. Off we went towards Pacita to get my puto bumbong and bibingka fix, when we started talking about California Maki. We thought, "where in that area can we find maki?" Rai Rai Ken SLEX came to mind but was worried it's already closed. The next I thought was Tokyo Tokyo. We immediately took a U-Turn and ...

Sambo Kojin Yakiniku Experience

My parents celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary last Monday, and our way to celebrate was through food at Sambo Kojin, located at the Food Center of SM Southmall in Las Pinas. I'm a huge fan of rolls/makis/sushis, sashimis and the like, so I started off with those. Lots of those. I also got a plateful of meat and seafood for grilling. Munching on my rolls while grilling. Before I head on to my next plate I was already feeling my stomach's expansion (I am not kidding!). Forgive me but I was not able to check out what the steamed thing I placed on my plate along with my miso soup was. It was white, soya-ish with crab stick slice and other meat. Please put a comment on this post if you know what it is. I kept coming back every now and then to serve as my folks' "runner" whenever they want something. Almost everything I got was for sharing, actually. Next on my plate were chap chae, tempura, spicy chicken wings, and katsu. You can imagi...

John and Yoko

Cosmopolitan Japanese seat design On a random Saturday night, I craved for something salty and maki. And since we were in the Makati area, we thought of going back to John and Yoko. What I love from these Marvin Agustin restos (including Sumo Sam) is the California roll. Couldn't trade it with any others'. Love it with lots of crab meat on top. California roll Sunset Prawn Salad Wagyu Rice, Chicken Teriyaki Maki and salad were served first, so before everything else arrived, I was already half-filled. It's my first time to try their prawn salad. Presentation was good. But in terms of taste, there's nothing to be too happy about. Rice seemed heavy so I took just a portion of it with chicken. I also ordered Green-colored iced tea, too, which is actually iced tea in Green Tea flavor. Honestly, aside from the rolls, I didn't find anything to look forward to from this "Japanese-in...

YakiMix

What a good way to celebrate 3 celebrations in 1 is through a buffet. As a family, we usually end up dining at Dampa for any family occasion. This time, my brother thought of bringing me and our folks somewhere different, something we've not tried in a long time. Being the South people that we are, we conquered holiday traffic just so we could venture into something new. When we got there, the place was so filled, we got a #20 in queue. And we literally had to wait more than an hour and a half just to get in. Whoever thought of serving free iced tea while waiting outside was a cool idea, huh.   The super long wait was worth it. I was overwhelmed seeing everything on the buffet area. I took a few portions of each food on my first round. All these just in Round 1 We all had for-share servings of foods to be grilled so I was not able to make a Round 2. Everything was filling. Bottomless iced tea in b...

John and Yoko, Greenbelt 5

On my last birthday, my boyfriend picked me up at the office after work to eat. We then proceeded to Greenbelt, as I was always wanting to try John and Yoko. The waitresses were accommodating enough to give us a seat, but due to the fact that we came at lunch time, we were given a place that's next to the kitchen, where almost (if not) all the servers pass by. We were given menus and ordered for what we thought we can finish. We were busy taking pics when the California maki salad and iced tea (calamansi flavor) were served. The salad was filled with lettuce, crabmeat, few sweet mango bits, and dressing. I'd say it's good, but really nothing to rave so much about. Next thing that came was tofu miso soup. It's very similar to that of Sumo Sam, and I must tell you that it is by far the best tofu soup that I liked. Their all-meat rice (which, the waitress said was one and a half) was more than enough for two hungry people, leaving our Japanese rice untouched. I lo...
