Cheesecake Bites by Happy Mommy

Last Thursday, I met up with Ciarra, my grade school classmate and the brain (and hands) behind Sweets by Happy Mommy. It was a coincidence we're formerly classmates and that my other friend, who ordered our barkada's Christmas treats, are friends, too. What a small world! I and our other  friends are too pre-occupied with our own stuff, little did we know our "sisters" in KSA were already having something in the works. We're getting sweets! What each of us received was a box of a dozen blueberry cheesecake bites, baked by no one else but Ciarra. Soon as I got home, I took a bite of my share. Sweet, smooth, and heavenly are words to describe it. I love cheesecakes, cheese in general, but let me just say that if you are just like me, a rat, este a cheese fanatic and possess a huge liking for sweet stuff, you will love it for real. Giving my two thumbs up to THE happy mommy for a job well done, with matching pat on the back, also for the effort to p

Tokyo Tokyo's California & Spicy Beef Makis

Don't you just love spontaneous moments? When you don't plan something out and suddenly pushes through, more than those you've prepared for? That's exactly the scene last night when my friend, out of the blue, sent me a message asking if I wanted to go food tripping. Imagine neighbors not seeing each other for weeks, and sometimes months, so of course I said yes. Still stuffed from the last meal I had, she asked what I was craving for and all I can think of was puto bumbong and bibingka. She, on the otherhand, wanted shawarma. The only place I know where there's shawarma is at the Rosario Complex strip, which is just a few meters away from our houses. Off we went towards Pacita to get my puto bumbong and bibingka fix, when we started talking about California Maki. We thought, "where in that area can we find maki?" Rai Rai Ken SLEX came to mind but was worried it's already closed. The next I thought was Tokyo Tokyo. We immediately took a U-Turn and

Pizza and Pasta Love

Being pissed off at work or anywhere, for that matter, doesn't do me any good these days because I end up splurging on nothing else but food. Last Thursday, I went out with one of my co-nurses at Festival Mall to shoo-away the bad vibes I had at work earlier that day. Prior to that, it's been one of our long-time plans to try out Japanese or Thai cuisine, but that time he didn't want anymore. We kept walking around and our lazy feet brought us to Sicylisimo. The green and yellow chairs and tables had me. Very cool ambience. We were both first-timers at this new place, so we looked on the menu and picked out what looked delish. I, being a cheese lover, instantly said yes to the call of Blue Buffalo Pizza and my partner-in-crime ordered Spaghetti Alla Bolognese. We asked for Brewed Iced Tea Pitcher, too. During the wait, someone walked by our table and placed a basket of thinly sliced crispy bread sticks. This made the wait worthwhile.   Then the pizza arriv

Sophie's Mom's Red Velvet Cupcake

Last Monday, after lunch-ing out with my parents, I saw this kiosk of cupcakes that looked really inviting. I asked the lady what the best-seller is, and she immediately answered, "Red Velvet". Woooow. Exactly what I thought.   I remember reading about the Top 10 Red Velvet Cupcakes months ago and Sophie's Mom landed on the 8th spot! Look at their packaging. A simple box that houses one cupcake in pink and blue colors. How lovely! But nothing's lovelier than what's inside. This moist, dark red cupcake with thick cream cheese frosting just does the trick. The sourness of the cream cheese and the sweetness brought in by the cupcake itself can make anyone's day for real. Sold at Php 60 per piece, which is not bad at all. :) I seriously enjoyed every bite and will definitely try other flavors next time. Go check out their kiosk in front of Sambo Kojin, along Food Center, SM Southmall.

Sambo Kojin Yakiniku Experience

My parents celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary last Monday, and our way to celebrate was through food at Sambo Kojin, located at the Food Center of SM Southmall in Las Pinas. I'm a huge fan of rolls/makis/sushis, sashimis and the like, so I started off with those. Lots of those. I also got a plateful of meat and seafood for grilling. Munching on my rolls while grilling. Before I head on to my next plate I was already feeling my stomach's expansion (I am not kidding!). Forgive me but I was not able to check out what the steamed thing I placed on my plate along with my miso soup was. It was white, soya-ish with crab stick slice and other meat. Please put a comment on this post if you know what it is. I kept coming back every now and then to serve as my folks' "runner" whenever they want something. Almost everything I got was for sharing, actually. Next on my plate were chap chae, tempura, spicy chicken wings, and katsu. You can imagi

Beer Talk

I am currently in Singapore and it is by boredom that I'm doing this post. I've been here for a few weeks and so far, this thing called boredom is doing its thing and is actually getting into me at times. What I did this week to keep up was go to Giant and took a taste test of the beers in Singapore... Only to be told by a friend that they aren't only locally available here but in the Philippines as well. Last Saturday evening, I remember to have stocked on this one called Guinness Foreign Extra as recommended by a new friend. Contained in a black "stout" can, I'm just not sure how many ml there was. The beer itself was sort of thick, dark brown and so far the most bitter-tasting I've had. I honestly do not know how I managed to finish my can of it. No more next time for this brand. On Tuesday, I asked for another recommendation from a friend who's based here in Sg and she said I might like Tiger Lager Beer better. Before anything else, I goog

Chicken Wrap Ala Kenny Rogers

After jogging this evening, my friends and I decided to eat "healthy" so as to keep up with the goal. First suggestion was Ilocano-style empanada, but we thought it was too oily. Therefore, an X. Then we opted for sandwich, and one of my girls wanted one from Kenny's. Got myself a California Chicken Wrap. It's basically like your typical sandwich, only wrapped in an 8-inch pita bread stuffed with veggies, mangoes and chicken. What I liked about it was the generous serving of chicken, plus the perfect combination of everything inside. Only at 100 php. Made a great choice! :)   * Super late post. This was on my draft since January. :/

Universal Bakery's Mamon & Ensaymada

You probably are from San Pedro (Laguna) or know or have relatives/friends from here if you've tried the fluffy mamon and yummy ensaymada from Universal Bakery - located at San Pedro National Highway and Pacita Commercial Complex. This afternoon, I found myself craving for mamon again and was lucky enough to be already in the Pacita area so having what I wanted was easy. Soon as I got to the house, I felt like ensaymada was calling me to have a take of its sweetness. True enough, it had me at first bite. What can go wrong with sugar, cream, cheese and bacon. Yes, you read it right, bacon! At 22 php,  you can NEVER ever go wrong with it. After dinner, I tried to resist the temptation by not opening the fridge. But the thought that inside it are the sweets I love,I failed big time. Sorry, mamon. :( 17 php is still not a bad price especially that I know that it will give me what I truly deserve of it. I've been away for a while and the only pasalubong I had for friends

Mer-Nel's Cake

One of the few things I truly enjoy cheap is food. Correct me if I'm wrong but "cheap" doesn't always equate to bland-tasting or unsatisfying. There are a few chocolate cakes I personally enjoy and the one from Mer-Nel's is definitely one of them. I couldn't resist the icing and the moistness of the bread. So difficult to compare with the commercialized cakes we know of. And how can we not love it when it looks this pretty? (please refer to above pic) As for the price, you'll never go wrong with it because it costs less than Php 200 (smallest size). Such a steal! If you're at the South, take time to find the stores located at Los Baños City and SM Calamba.

BBB Alabang

It's one of our friends' last days in the country before she leaves for Jeddah, so we talked about eating out as a sort of "despedida" for her. We agreed to stay at BBB in Northgate after another friend tags us on Facebook with a picture of a burger from BBB. To settle that thought that's probably going around your head, BBB stands for Big Better Burgers. Truly, these burgers are big enough to satisfy huge appetites like mine. We ordered separately and here's what I got : Friesssss! Yummeeehh! Hahalapeno Burger Meal This is it when opened- Jalapeño salsa, cheese, lettuce, ketchup Hahalapeno Burger Meal comes with potato chips and iced tea, and very reasonable for Php 152. I was on a very bad craving so I ended up getting fries, as well. I give it a thumbs up at Php 60. I also have to say that BBB has the nicest-tasting mayo I've ever tasted. :) Our foods came shortly after and we all had a great time chatting over our burgers and frie

Via Mare

warning : you got to have great imagination because this blog doesnt contain pictures. sorry. I'm still very full as I'm doing this blog. As much as I'd like to take pictures of what we had this aftee, it would've been very impolite to my bosses if I took out my phone/cam just so you'd see. We were at St. Luke's Global City earlier for a meeting/training with the e-health team, but before going to the 5th level, one of my bosses wanted get something from Via Mare. I wasn't thinking about eating yet because I had FULL lunch. Since I was with the bosses, I couldn't say no and not eat with them. So I did. We ordered Lomi, Puto Bumbong, Bibingka and I had additional Guinomis (something similar to halo-halo but instead of milk, they added coconut milk/gata). It was our male boss who first ordered Lomi. It looked and smelled really good, he kept convincing my female boss to order one, too! She did, with the condition that I share it with her. Puto B

Bulalo Point Turo-Turo Grill

Happy new year! Thank you for giving me another year to share with you my current and not-so-current food finds. For this year, I will try to update as much as I can so I give my two cents on foods/restaurants and other food-related stuff that may be helpful to everyone. Happy reading! *** One afternoon, I received a text message from a friend asking if I had work the next day. After saying yes and asking why, I was told we're going on a roadtrip! Excited as I was, I replied and said I was coming. Karen (short for kalad-karen) alert!! After long hours of waiting (whew! Let's not get there...), evening of the next day came. Clueless of where exactly we're going, we drove to Tagaytay talking about random things. In the middle of the trip, my friend asked if we were familiar with this place called Bulalo Point. I remember just passing along the area but never even once tried checking what the place offers. As soon as we got there, we were guided to stay at a nipa hu
